What does done-for-you cold email cost in the UK?
Anywhere from about £100 a month doing it yourself to £5,000 a month and more with a big agency. Here's what you actually get at each level, and the costs people forget.
The three ways to do it
| Do it yourself | Freelancer | Agency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly cost | £100 to £300 in tools and data | £800 to £2,000 | £1,500 to £5,000+ |
| Setup fee | None | Often | £1,000 to £4,000 is common |
| Contract | None | Varies | Usually 3 to 6 months |
| Your time | 10+ hours a week | 2 to 3 hours a week | An hour a week |
| Risk | Damaging your own domain | Quality varies a lot | Paying for months before you know it works |
Ranges from agency and freelancer price lists we've seen in the UK market. Your quotes will vary.
What doing it yourself really costs
- Contact data: £50 to £100 a month for a lead database or scraping tool.
- Sending tool: £30 to £100 a month.
- Separate domains and mailboxes: about £5 a month per mailbox plus around £10 a year per domain.
- Warm-up: two weeks before you send anything, and a warm-up tool if you have several mailboxes.
- Your time: building lists, writing, checking replies. This is the cost that kills most DIY attempts.
Questions to ask any provider
- Is there a setup fee, and is there a minimum term?
- Do you send from my domain or a separate one? (It should be separate.)
- Do I approve every email before it goes out?
- Who owns the list and the emails if I leave?
- Will you promise meetings? (Be wary of anyone who guarantees them.)
